MY APPROACH
My approach is body-mind centered, based in somatic and body psychotherapy, Bioenergetic Analysis and Sensorimotor therapy. I draw from psychodynamic therapy, developmental and self-psychology, attachment theory, mindfulness and the neurosciences.
I acknowledge the profound connection between body and mind, and how that connection affects the way we process sensations, emotions, memories, ideas, and understanding.
I believe that emotional problems need to be addressed through a combination of talk and exploration of the language of the body, breathing, movement, and expression. Regulating affective states and promoting self-regulation through the therapeutic relationship help restore a sense of wellbeing in body, mind and behavior.
The work consists of becoming aware of the emotional distress and finding ways to safely discharge the body tensions, accessing and processing issues through the body that manifest in the form of psychological symptoms and attitudes that diminish the ability to live a more pleasurable life.
The goal of therapy is to help clients resolve emotional distress, promote self-regulation, psychological and emotional growth, restore aliveness and vitality to flow freely, expressiveness, acceptance, and more pleasure in relating to oneself and others.
